Grumier leaves his post as coach of the France team for Hong Kong

Gauthier Grumier, coach of the French men’s epee team, disrupted by tensions before the Olympic Games, is leaving his post, said Tuesday the vice-president in charge of high-level with the French Fencing Federation Brice Guyart. “Gauthier Grumier is leaving us to coach Hong Kong, the men and women, it’s a personal choice”he declared during a press point held by the federation and its new president Remy Delhomme at Insep. For the moment, the name of a replacement has not yet been communicated, “it’s being discussed”continued the former foilist, evoking “someone who will be available straight away and who knows the group a little”. Gauthier Grumier only spent a few months at the head of the France team. Former assistant to general manager Hugues Obry, he took up his position when the latter resigned at the end of February. A departure which came following several months of degraded relations with shooters Romain Cannone, Yannick Borel and Alexandre Bardenet after a stormy debrief of the last World Championships. The three men had also chosen to leave the federal structure of Insep to train on their own. Tensions continued when Bardenet was not selected for the Olympics. At the Olympics, the French team, led in particular by Borel who won individual silver, failed to win a medal, falling during the match for bronze.
