The future of Ferry will be metropolitan. The City of Lyon, which managed in public service delegation (DSP) Villeurbanne performance hall since its inauguration in 1989, will hand over to the Metropolis of Lyon.
Owner of the premises, it had made this major cultural den of the urban area available to the municipality, via andlong administrative lease (BEA), which expires at the end of June 2025.
Operated by the company Transmissionthe DSP has been extended until June 30, 2026. “A decision motivated by the fact that cultural facilities operate by cultural season (September-June) and by the deadlines for implementing a new DSP lasting ten years“, indicate the Metropolis services in a press release released on December 16.
Already a candidate for the public service delegation of the Transbordeur
Among Transmission’s shareholders, the production company Eldorado & Co (which owns 50% of the shares), alongside Cyrille Bonin (director of Le Transbordeur), JHD Production and Vincent Carry.
For its president, Julien Pommier“neither serenity nor worry regarding this deadline“. The manager specifying: “We cost nothing to the community since we do not receive any subsidies, and we pay them rent and a variable part of the turnover [15 000 euros de loyer et environ 50 000 euros liés au chiffre d’affaires de 1,1 millions d’euros en 2023, NDLR].”
A good point for Transmission, an ambitious candidate for its own succession, whose profitable results and seniority of management of the Transbo are all arguments that could reassure the community.
However, the company, not yet having knowledge of the specifications of the next DSP, do not claim victory. The Métropole de Lyon indicates that the business consultation file will be published by the end of December.
The Ferry requires significant investments
Well that the 1,800-seat room – to which are added the 450 non-seated places of the club – has already suffered renovation worklarger investments would be necessary: ”It is difficult to invest in the time of a single DSP, which until now lasted five years. Today, we need to rethink the exteriors”according to Julien Pommier.
“The Transbordeur is a legendary room. It brings together more than 150,000 people every year, whether for concerts, festivals or meetings. It is a flagship place for the cultural dynamism of our territory. It is now up to the Metropolis to maintain this beautiful dynamic and this energy specific to the Transbo so that this hall remains a national and international reference for current music“, specifies Cédric Van Styvendaelvice-president of the Métropole de Lyon in charge of cultural policies.
