At the end of January, all that will remain is to remove the paintings and protect the stations of the cross and the statues before launching the construction of the nave and the side chapels, which will be carried out in two stages: first the eastern part (choir side) then the west part, i.e. 27 months of work in total. “It’s a big facelift,” says Marie-Suzanne de Ponthaud, chief architect of the historic monuments of Morbihan. This will involve restoring the facings and furniture, replacing damaged stones. It will also be necessary to clean, repoint and apply a whitewash made of lime and water... “It will be less austere, it will lighten it,” assures Marie-Suzanne de Ponthaud.

Visit from Easter via a tunnel

From Easter 2025, the public will once again be able to enter the cathedral but only for visits to the choir and the transept. He will be able to access it via a tunnel under the scaffolding forest.

For two years, parish life, services, baptisms, weddings and burials will take place in the Saint-Yves chapel, near the Town Hall and in the chapel of the Saint-François Xavier college-high school.
