OOrganized by the Moroccan Association of Former Students of the École Polytechnique (Groupe X-Maroc), this event brought together influential figures from the energy sector, government officials and Moroccan and foreign experts.

Among the personalities present, Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, and Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, marked the event with their interventions. Jamal Eddine M’Hamdi, president of the X-Maroc Group, highlighted Morocco’s achievements in energy transition under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI. He also insisted on the importance of this conference in fueling the national debate around energy sovereignty issues and proposing innovative solutions to support this transition.

Benali highlighted the need for an investment shock to sustainably transform the energy sector. Since 2021, Morocco has added 1.5 GW of capacity from renewable energy, mainly from solar and wind, with 17 billion dirhams of investments. This made it possible to reach a 44% share of installed capacity from renewable energies, compared to 37% in 2021. She also spoke of the need to accelerate this dynamic to reach an additional 7 GW by 2030, requiring around 7 billion euros of investments. The minister insisted on the urgency of tripling annual investments in renewable energies and multiplying those in electricity networks by five.

In addition to the opening session, the event offered several panels addressing key issues for the energy sector. The first panel focused on the diversification of the energy mix, exploring the investments and partnerships necessary to support economic growth. The second panel focused on the impact of the energy transition on the competitiveness of Moroccan companies, in particular the constraints encountered by exporters. Finally, the third panel examined global regulatory developments and technological innovations that could accelerate the energy transition in Morocco. The latter also dealt with the adaptation of Moroccan companies to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) of the European Union.

The conference concluded with a session led by Ryad Mezzour, highlighting the economic opportunities linked to energy and industrial transitions. This event thus confirmed the vocation of the X-Maroc Group to actively contribute to the energy, economic and technological development of the Kingdom. With more than 600 members occupying key positions in the public and private sectors, the association has established itself as a major player in reflection and action for the development of Morocco.
