The dismissed mayor of Dakar, Barthélemy Dias, was prevented by the police from accessing road rehabilitation works near the Cité Keur Gorgui roundabout and Grand Dakar. The police, massively present, blocked his access, illustrating an escalation of political tensions surrounding his situation.

Last week, Barthélemy Dias was also prohibited by the police from holding a press conference in the Dakar town hall.

This intervention comes a few days after his official dismissal from Dakar town hall, announced on December 13, 2024. The decision, taken by the prefect of Dakar following the request of a municipal voter, is based on article L .277 of the Senegalese Electoral Code. The latter stipulates that a municipal councilor can be declared resigned in the event of ineligibility or legal incompatibility.

The dismissal of Barthélemy Dias stems from his conviction in the Ndiaga Diouf case, a homicide dating from 2011, for which the Supreme Court confirmed his sentence in December 2023. Already removed from the National Assembly for similar reasons, he has 10 days to contest this decision before the Court of Appeal, in accordance with the legislation in force.
