Security: Law enforcement mobilized to prevent burglaries with Operation Calm Holidays

Julie David, chief of staff of the prefect of Gers, went to the field today, alongside the gendarmerie, to attend a mission to inspect a home as part of an OTV.

Since the start of the year, 983 burglaries have been recorded by the police in Gers, i.e. 172 additional incidents compared to 2023.

As the end-of-year holidays approach and in order to prevent possible burglaries, the police and gendarmerie services are offering Gers residents to watch over their accommodation during their absence for the holidays and to warn them in the event of an anomaly thanks to At free device Operation Holiday Tranquility (OTV).

This service allows residents during their prolonged absences to request surveillance of their home. Registration for OTV thus makes it possible to organize police or gendarmerie patrols, day and night, in order to fight against burglaries.

The Gers National Police carried out this year, with the assistance of the DCPP (Police Population Cohesion Delegate), several “Operation Tranquility Seniors” prevention sessions.     • Do not leave a ladder, scaffolding, tools, etc. in the garden.

    • Do not write the name and home address on the set of keys,

    • Do not leave keys under the doormat or in the mailbox.

  • Protection of assets

    • Do not leave money in your home,

    • Put your jewelry, art and valuables in a safe place. List and photograph them.

  • In case of prolonged absence

    • Do not report your absence on social networks,

    • Forward your mail,

    • Ask a neighbor to come by regularly to open and close the windows.

  • You are the victim of a burglary…

  • First reflex: keep calm, don’t touch anything and call him 17 immediately.

  • Take photos while waiting for the gendarmerie or police to intervene.
