Pierre Soulages exhibition at the Luxembourg Museum

Museum of Luxembourg
From September 16, 2025 to January 11, 2026

The Luxembourg Museum celebrates the intimate and captivating work of Pierre Soulages through an exhibition dedicated to his creations on paper, these fragile and luminous works which constitute a cornerstone of his artistic practice. Indian ink, walnut husk, gouache and charcoal, come in an infinite number of shades, in a subtle play of reflections and materials, going from deep and velvety brown tones to reflections of a bluish black of rare intensity. Far from being limited to preparatory drawings, these works on paper are real paintings, sublimating the support to reveal tensions and transparencies, thus initiating the beginnings of his Outrenoir. An invitation to rediscover a master of abstraction through a medium that was dear to him and which, paradoxically, magnified light through darkness.
