Matam, Dec 9 (APS) – The Minister of Health and Social Action, Ibrahima Sy listed, Monday, the measures taken by the health authorities during the floods following the flooding of the Senegal River, between last October and November , to “control the situation and curb the spread of certain diseases”, in the Matam region (north).

“Control of the situation is the result of several combined actions, namely the establishment of an epidemiological surveillance system for vector-borne diseases, through a mechanism for early detection and prevention among populations,” he said. he declared during an interview with journalists.

In this regard, the minister cited mass awareness-raising actions during the flood period on the risks of “vector-transmitted” diseases.

Ibrahima Sy also mentioned the establishment of a system for treating potential larval sites by agents of the Hygiene Service.

“They had to identify potential sites which they treated early,” he underlined, adding that another measure consisted of distributing impregnated mosquito nets to populations who were in disaster situations for the ‘ ‘protect against nuisances linked to vectors of diseases such as malaria”.

Water treatment kits were also given to the affected populations of Matamese to prevent anything related to water-borne diseases, according to Mr. Sy.
