The collision occurred on Saturday December 7 at 9:20 a.m., at the crossroads between the RD 902 and the RD 25 which comes from Lissac, in the town of Loudes, in Haute-Loire. A refusal of priority would be the cause of the accident which occurred with high kinetics at the front of each vehicle. Twenty-five firefighters were involved in this intervention under the command of Lieutenant Eric Marquardsen.
A family of five was in the BMW, and three members of another family were in the Toyota Yaris. The eight occupants were seen by the rescuers who set up the Sinus application (standardized digital information system) which allows recording and monitoring of victims shared by the firefighters, the Samu and the police. The four parents, aged around 30 and 40, 3 children aged 10 to 15 and an 18 month old baby were categorized as relative emergency. The victims had trauma and wounds to their faces, as well as injuries to their lower limbs. They were all evacuated to Emile-Roux hospital, in Puy-en-Velay.
The mayor of Loudes, Laurent Barbalat, went to the scene of the accident. The vehicles were evacuated by tow trucks, and the Department's roads department cleared the roadway. The gendarmerie opened an investigation.
