Morbihan oysters will probably be on many tables for the Christmas holidays. end of year 2024. Every year, the police carry out surveillance operations on oyster farms. An operation takes place on December 6, 2024 in Baden in the Gulf of Morbihan. Three or four similar operations (depending on the weather) will take place during the end-of-year holidays.
Monitoring of oyster farms
An agreement between the prefecture, the gendarmerie and the national shellfish farming committee has been in progress for several years to monitor oysters before the crucial end-of-year holiday period.
In fact, the marine mollusk makes people envious. Oyster farmers are victims of vols. “We are much more peaceful with this generalized surveillance. This is in addition to our vigilance on our parks and our construction sites,” says Anita Allain-Le Port, oyster farmer.
Friday December 6, an operation will be organized in the Gulf of Morbihan. In addition to the 25 gendarmes on the ground, a gendarmerie helicopter flies over the parks of an oyster farming company in the middle of the afternoon.
Every year, law enforcement does this communication operation as part of the monitoring of oyster farms in the run-up to the end-of-year holidays. In 2023, there have been no major pocket thefts in the Gulf of Morbihan.
Several actions implemented
Oyster farmers and the gendarmerie have developed partnership actions for several years:
- sharing information on risk areas and suspicious behavior
- creation of a local alert chain shared between professionals and the gendarmerie
- area control of the gendarmerie carried out by a tight grid making it possible to secure the territory.
The gendarmerie (Lorient and Vannes company, Quiberon nautical brigade, Lorient maritime gendarmerie, Saint-Nazaire and Rennes aerial sections) will participate in this security (day and night).
