Tarn-et-Garonne has been for many years one of the most
accident-causing from . The leading factor in fatal accidents remains risky driving with the three main ones in terms of fatal accidents being drugs, alcohol and speed.

Young people represent 24% of road deaths

Risky behavior impacts all age groups, however a clear over-representation of young people, and thisboth due to risky driving and inexperience due to their position as learner drivers. Thus, the age range of 18 – 24 ans is very largely over-represented in fatal accidents: it makes up 7% of the population of the department, but it alone represents there on average over recent years 24% of road deaths.

“In preventing risky behavior, beer coasters displaying prevention messages to road safety have been distributed in more than ten bars in the department, for use throughout the month of December, in the run-up to the end-of-year holidays,” announced the prefecture.

40% of deaths concern people aged 65 and over

In France, in 2023, 887 seniors died in a road accident, including 370 aged 65 to 74, 338 aged 75 to 84 and 179 aged 85 or over. In 2024, in Tarn-et-Garonne, 40% of deaths on the roads concern people of 65 years and over.

For seniors, medicine bags displaying prevention messages were distributed in more than 20 partner pharmacies in the department.
