Guest of Jeune Afrique, Aminata Touré, High Representative of the President of the Republic, spoke directly on the closure of French military bases in Senegal. This, just a few days after the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, raised this issue during an interview with France 2.
“We plan to develop partnerships with everyone but in other forms. This could be information sharing or training. But we must remember why the military bases were in Africa. It was to come to the aid of governments completely in the pay and at the mercy of France. We have passed this period” replied the former Prime Minister.

“This does not mean that it is the end of military cooperation with France, China, the United States or anyone. We remain open, but the terms change,” she said. “Today, Africans have more sovereignty and this involves military sovereignty” added Mimi Touré.
