Bishop of Coutances and AvranchesMonsignor Grégoire Cador will attend the reopening service of Paris Cathedral on Sunday morning. He is one of 170 bishops from France and around the world invited for this event by the Archbishop of Paris, Laurent Ulrich.
“A moment of religious fervor”
“It will be a moment of religious fervorof national and even international fervor. I do not have a personal attachment or a particular history with the cathedral, but I really commune with the momentum which manifested itself at the time of the fire and which impressed me, with this general mobilization, beyond religious and ideological affiliations, around this symbolic figure of Notre-Dame. »
I still remember this image of the Virgin among the rubble. For me it is something very powerful: the cathedral which is collapsing and the statue of the Virgin which is not touched.
The bishop sees in this celebration the expression of “the unity of our Church”. He will also rediscover the cathedral: “I went there several times and I found it a little dark. But when I see the photos of its restoration, I have the impression that I am going to experience something that I had experienced when I revisited Chartres Cathedral, on my return from Africa. »
He is also looking forward to discovering the new visiting circuit, which will create a link between tourists and the faithful.
The inaugural mass will mark the beginning of an “octave”, that is to say of eight days of religious holidays. Mgr Cador will also be present SATURDAY at the ceremonies planned in the presence of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and numerous foreign heads of state.
