This has not happened since 1962. The National Assembly voted to censure the government this Wednesday, December 4, 2024. 331 deputies voted in favor of the text tabled by the elected representatives of the New Popular Front, bringing down the Barnier government.

Throughout the afternoon, representatives of the different political groups took turns speaking, before the Prime Minister spoke from the podium of the National Assembly. As he announced, the National Rally group voted in favor of the text.

Gabriel Attal, president of the Ensemble pour la République group, like Laurent Wauquiez, head of the Droite Républicaine group, spoke out against the prospect of censorship by the Barnier government. Addressing the National Rally, the first denounced “an error in the face of History”, when the second assured that Marine Le Pen’s party would “bear responsibility with LFI” to immerse France “in instability”.

As a reminder, as provided for in the regulations of the National Assembly, “only MPs in favor of the motion of censure take part in the vote”. There is therefore no vote for, vote against or abstention, like other ballots in the National Assembly.

The elected representatives of Champagne-Ardenne voted in accordance with their political affiliation. The Champardennais deputies from the National Rally or the Union of Rights for the Republic (Eric Ciotti's group) all voted in favor of the text. Elected officials from our region who are members of the Horizons, Ensemble pour la République, Droite Républicaine or Liot groups did not participate in the vote.

Note that there is currently no MP in office in the first constituency of the Ardennes. A partial legislative election is underway, with the second round scheduled for December 8.

The motion of censure tabled by the New Popular Front deputies having been adopted, that tabled by the National Rally will not be put to the vote.

In March 2023, the fall of the government was narrowly avoided. As part of the examination of pension reform, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne held her government accountable by using article 49 paragraph 3 of the Constitution.

The text carried by the deputy for Liberties, Independents, Overseas and Territories (Liot) of , Charles de Courson, had collected 278 favorable votes. Among them were also elected officials from the New Popular Front, members of the Les Républicains group and even the National Rally.

Another text tabled by the National Rally could count on 94 votes for. Six elected officials who are not members of the RN group, like Ardennes resident Pierre Cordier, chose to vote for this motion of censure.

Find below the details of the votes of the Champardennais deputies, on March 20, 2023.
