Résumé. Finding an apartment to rent in has become increasingly complicated, especially for precarious populations. The rental market figures are catastrophic: between January 2021 and September 2024, the number of properties for rent fell by 55%. At the same time, demand increased by 100% between January 2021 and September 2023.

The reasons for this rental shortage are multiple… Among them, the increasing number of homes left vacant, and owners who often prefer to rent their property via seasonal rental platforms such as Airbnb.

This episode of Code Source is narrated by Delphine Denuit and Sébastien Thomas, journalists at the real estate unit of Le Parisien.
