In Senegal, Ousmane Sonko chose to remain Prime Minister, renouncing his mandate as deputy after the victory of his Pastef party in the early legislative elections on November 17.
I remain at the Prime Minister’s office. I went to submit my letter of resignation as an MP. We have started work at the Prime Minister’s Office. The president needs me by his side. We are continuing this work, he told journalists on the occasion of the installation of the new assembly on Monday.
Malick Ndiaye, until then Minister of Land and Air Transport, was elected President of the Assembly in the evening. Following his election, a mini ministerial reshuffle took place, with the entry into the government of Abass Fall, appointed Minister of Labor, Employment and Relations with Institutions.
The mandate of deputy being incompatible with the function of minister in Senegal, Mr. Fall, head of the Pastef Dakar list, will not sit in parliament. Former President Macky Sall also chose to renounce his mandate as deputy: in accordance with the commitment I made on this subject, I will resign from my mandate as deputy at the opening of the next legislature, so that the legal consequences can be drawn.”
