Several regions have already received snow, but this week everyone will be served. The portions will not all be the same though. Forecast.
Snow for everyone
The system will come from the west of the country and it will sweep almost the entire territory of Quebec starting early Wednesday. The western sectors of the province will therefore be the first to sit down for this winter episode, which will be the first for many, particularly in the south of the province.
Premier service
Wednesday afternoon, light to moderate snow will fall in the regions of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Outaouais, Laurentides and northern Saguenay. In the evening, the snow will move a little further east to reach Mauricie, certain sectors of Beauce and the Capitale-Nationale. The snow will not fall intensely, but accumulations could be appreciable depending on the sector.
Grosse portion
On Thursday, the system will gain muscle and attack the east of the province. The snow could then be heavy at times. We mainly monitor the Gaspé Peninsula, Bas-Saint-Laurent, the Matapédia valley and the Haute-Côte-Nord. In New Brunswick, the Caraquet sector is also expected to receive heavy snowfall. The winds will be very present Thursday afternoon, with gusts that could exceed 60 km/h in Gaspésie and on the North Shore. Visibility could therefore be a significant problem when traveling.
Up to 30cm
In total, between Wednesday and Friday, the Outaouais and the Laurentians will have the largest portions of snow in the west with between 10 and 15 cm of accumulations, and perhaps up to 20 cm in places. Montreal will avoid the worst, but should be entitled to almost 5 cm. The quantities are likely to be greater for the sectors of the northern crown of Montreal, while they are expected to be less appreciable in the southern crown. In Mauricie and the Capitale-Nationale, we could see between 10 and 15 cm of accumulation. Elsewhere in the south of the province, 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected.
Visibility problem
The jackpot will be distributed in eastern Quebec. In Gaspésie, particularly on the peninsula, we could see accumulations of between 15 and 25 cm, perhaps even more in mountainous terrain. The Haute-Côte-Nord, particularly Sept-Îles and its surrounding areas, will have to deal with accumulations of between 20 and 30 cm of snow by Friday. With the strong gusts expected, snow removal could be complicated in these regions.
