The 2024 list of towns and villages in bloom in Haute-Loire has been revealed. Twenty municipalities applied with the aim of obtaining their first flower.
The revegetation of public spaces, the preservation of natural environments, the involvement of residents in these projects… here are the initiatives to which the jurors representing the Villes et Villages Fleuris label pay particular attention.
Municipalities apply to obtain their first flower, making it possible to gauge the quality of the living environment. Even if only the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region can award a flower, this competition led by the Department is an opportunity to encourage and support municipal elected officials in their beautification efforts. This year, twenty communities participated. The unveiling of the 2024 winners took place on Friday in Polignac, a town which already has two flowers. In the spring, videos will be produced to highlight the municipalities that received a first prize. photo s. jamon
A first attempt and a first prize
In the category reserved for villages with up to 499 inhabitants, first prize was won by Saint-Privat-du-Dragon, which applied for the first time. “We are looking to invest in municipal places that become available,” explained Agnès Jean, mayor of the town. The big project was the transformation of a landfill into a picnic area, an abandoned place which has a beautiful view. »
1st prize in the category ranking cities with 500 to 999 inhabitants was awarded to Cayres. “Among other things, we replaced the tar sidewalk edges with plantations,” recalls the mayor, Ludovic Gire. The key point of their development is a 10,000 liter rainwater tank, buried under the town to allow the plants to be watered. In the category of localities with more than 1,000 inhabitants, Beaulieu comes first.
“During the last five years, we have acted on the flowering of the commune,” indicates Nadine Angenieux, an elected official. We have opened paths in the town which allow you to get around without using the road. » The prize awarded each year to an individual was awarded to a resident of Saint-Paulien. He built furniture from reclaimed wood, decorated them with plants then installed them in the town.
