The oasis courtyard from the Center nursery school in Méry-sur-Oise (Val-d'Oise) was officially inaugurated on Friday November 8, 2024, in the presence of students, teachers and elected officials.

This new playground creates a more balanced environment, less mineral and more vegetated.

Oasis is good!

“It is an innovative approach to the development of recreation spaces, promoting new uses while preserving the comfort and safety of children. This project contributes to the integration of nature-based solutions within public facilities such as the school where we are gathered, but above all because it benefits above all the development and education of young generations , therefore the citizens of tomorrow”, underlines Véronique Pélissier, vice-president (Lr) of the Department for Children and Families, alongside her colleague Pierre-Édouard Éon, mayor (Lr) of the commune and vice-president of the Departmental Council.

The transformation of the courtyard was carried out with the support of the Val-d'Oise Architecture, Town Planning and Environment Council (Caue).

This initiative is part of the Oasis project, which advocates openness, adaptation, awareness, innovation and social bonds. The aim is to create a stimulating and harmonious environment, conducive to sharing and learning outdoors for children.

Quiet activities

The Val-d'Oise Departmental Council invested more than €48,000 in this project, as part of its Val-d'Oise Territoires Fund. This oasis courtyard concept includes:

– New recreational uses with facilities intended for experimentation and discovery activities, as well as a varied fun offering including materials to discover and cabins.

– A courtyard adapted to all paces with integrated spaces for calm and educational activities.

– A planted and shaded courtyard aimed at reducing heat islands, promoting biodiversity, using water as a resource and managing infiltration during major floods.

– A space designed collectively involving all court stakeholders in its overall design.
