In Vendée, a family is now safe at home

A year of work was necessary to rehabilitate the house located in the town center and ensure safety and comfort for its owners. “We had no choice, it had become too dangerous and the small jobs I had done were still DIY, they didn’t last long”specifies Sébastien, who acquired the 70 m2 house in 2005 with his wife. “We fell in love with this house at first sight, it’s our first purchase. Before, we lived in where we both work; we came here with our son and we want to make our life here. We are good. But we couldn't take on the work alone, it was much too heavy for us. »

Renovation of the roof, insulation of the walls, replacement of the joinery, upgrading of the very outdated electricity, complete renovation of the bathroom… “The process was long, but it was successful. There was a lot of preparation and support work at all stages of the financing file so that the rights of the family were respected”specifies Claire Batard, responsible for social missions at Procivis Ouest, who, at the request of the Foundation, was asked to work with the social worker and the operator, ensuring the pre-financing of the work and the link between the household and businesses.

Other support for the modest owner couple came from the Town Hall who facilitated the family's rehousing during the construction period, and from the Department's social workers who supported the family from the start of putting together the file, three years ago. .

“We had to pay a year's rental, in addition to the house charges, it was a choice and it was heavy, but we have no regrets. This house has a history and we want to spend our lives there. For us, this work was necessary, but it was enormous amounts, it scared us. We were supported throughout the work, and from the start: it was very important not to feel alone. I would like to thank very sincerely those who helped us financially and humanly. »

As part of its “SOS Taudis” program, the Foundation financially covered the remaining household costs, thus making it possible to complete this unsanitary exit file.

“Today’s house has nothing to do with the old one. We feel really good there and our lives are no longer in danger. »
