What are the best restaurants in the world? At the end of the year, the rankings of the best restaurants follow one another, in order to guide fans of gastronomy. A few days ago, the Fooding guide revealed the name of the Parisian establishment where to taste the best pizza in 2025. It was then around the prestigious ranking established by Gault&Millau to be revealed, then that produced by the “50 Best”. Today, it is “La Liste”, the famous, most selective and global culinary travel guide, which publishes its ranking of the best establishments. The digital guide has just published its list of the 1000 best restaurants in the world, which lists more than 30,000 addresses. Not surprisingly, two French restaurants are in this ranking.
A prestigious ranking
Fine gastronomy connoisseurs have been waiting for it… On November 25, the emblematic digital guide “La Liste” unveiled its ranking of the 1000 best restaurants around the world. To establish this useful and prestigious ranking, the French guide, founded in 2015, under the leadership of the Quai d'Orsaywas based on press publications, consumer reviews, but also renowned gastronomic guides. To list restaurants, the ratings given to the best restaurants or hotels by more than 1,000 guides, publications and participatory sites are compiled into a database.
Each evaluation is then converted into a harmonized score out of 100, according to a conversion table specific to each guide. Note that the reliability of the guides and sources used is evaluated by an online survey of thousands of chefs, at the end of which each guide is assigned a “reliability coefficient” of between 0 and 10. Finally, for each restaurant and hotel, the average of the evaluations obtained in the different guides is calculated.
Two French restaurants among the best in the world
At the top of the 2025 list, two French restaurants that have captured the hearts and palates of international guides. This is the restaurant The Golden Wave by Arnaud Donckele at Cheval Blanc Saint-Tropez which obtains the nice score of 99.5 out of 100. The 47-year-old chef, native of Rouen, also achieved the feat of occupying the first two steps of the podium with two different establishments since its other establishment called “La Plénitude”, located in Paris, took second place with a score of 99 out of 100. Also on the first step of the podium with a score of 99.5 out of 100, the Guy Savoy restaurant, from the chef of the same name, located in Paris. Note that the latter appears in the top of the ranking for the eighth consecutive year. Guy Savoy can also boast of obtaining the title of “Chef of the year” by The List. A nice revenge for the one who recently lost his third star in the Michelin Guide.
