The end of deployment of the optical fiber in the Channel is becoming clearer. According to the schedule, 330,000 shots must be installed to connect the entire territory to the FTTH network by the end of 2025.
To date, 274,000 sockets have been built, of which 250,000 are marketable. The department currently has 128,000 subscribers to fiber, or a little more than a third of the identified potential.
All municipalities in the region will be connected by the end of 2025. We have no concerns about meeting this objective. Marketing will continue in 2026.
“Negotiations in progress”
The network infrastructure will then be completed. It will nevertheless remain deal with so-called complex connectionsparticularly those concerning buildings away from public roads where the optical cables pass. The number of these cases is estimated between 4,000 and 6,000 in the department.
“Negotiations are underway with the State to obtain additional financing», Indicates Antoine Delaunay. The decision to connect one site rather than another will probably depend on the costs to the community.
From 1is January 2025, Manche Numérique will offer a fixed telephony offer intended for communities. “The objective is not to compete with the private sector, but to provide a solution allowing communities to rationalize their needs and their services with a single contact,” explains the president.
This mixed union is already a telecommunications operator, “the only community in France” to occupy this niche. It is an Internet access provider for municipalities, communities of municipalities and public organizations such as the Departmental Fire and Rescue Union.
Manche Numérique provides Internet connections to 500 sites in the department and also offers a mobile telephone service, always for communities.
