Following on from their great victory against Toulouges, the players of Cahors Lot XIII lost with honors this Sunday afternoon on the field of leader Villefranche d'Albi.
The Cadurciens, who were in the match the whole time, stood up to the Tarnais, ultimately conceding a narrow defeat with a score of 23 to 14.
In this meeting it was the Cadurciens who took the lead on a penalty scored by Joël Stocks a quarter of an hour into the game.
The response from the Villefranchois did not take long. The Tarnais first showed the power of their forwards for the first try of the match then the speed of their backs for a try at the foot of the posts. After twenty-five minutes of play, the score was 14 to 2 in favor of the locals.
But the Cadurcians immediately moved forward in this meeting and two minutes before the break, a great action from Lotoise at the end of the scrum allowed the full-back Paolo Castant to break through the opposing defense to score the first try for a team Cadurcienne which was only led by six points at half-time: 14 to 8.
At the start of the second period, Villefranche d'Albi found its way to the visitors' goal for the third time in the match to bring the score to 20 to 8.
But far from being discouraged, despite ankle injuries to Julien Pineau and Alexis Camposet, the Cadurcians scored a second try through Mathieu Salvador who recovered a nice kick over the top from Luc Gardillou, before flattening into a corner.
Faced with a visiting team that came back to six points, the Tarnais definitively assured their narrow victory with a drop (66th) then with a penalty (68th).
Cahors (who will host Entraigues next Sunday) bowed with their heads held high with a score of 23 to 14.
