Dolls, small cars, puzzles,…around fifty second-hand toys were offered for sale in the village hall of La Chapelle-Baloue, in Creuse. The inhabitants played the game and came in numbers to try to find what they were looking for. This is the case of Estelle and her 6-year-old son: “What's the point of producing objects that are already there. I find it indecent to buy new toys when there are so many circulating that are not there.” In total, around fifteen people dropped off toys free of charge, to sell them for the benefit of a town association.
“Creating intergenerational social bonds”
In an ecological and economic approach, local residents also came like Rudy, from San Sebastian: “All parents know very well that toys get damaged very quickly. So we ourselves pass on our toys, sometimes to toy exchanges.“Also a way to do your shopping, less than a month before Christmas. The maximum price for a toy was 20 euros.
The money raised was intended for a brand new association that has just been created in the village. Aurélie, one of the three founders of the structure, explains that “This money raised will be used for other events.” Soon, the association will decorate the church square or organize a galette des rois in January. So, the goal is to “revitalize the village through different activities that we will put in place and create intergenerational social links with the oldest and youngest.” A dynamism that this town of 120 inhabitants had lost.
