A smuggler who was transporting nine migrants was arrested this Thursday, November 28 around 4 a.m. at the Montgenèvre station (Hautes-Alpes). He had forced his way during a police check a few minutes earlier.
Ten men were arrested this Thursday, November 28 around 4 a.m. in the Montgenèvre station, indicates the Hautes-Alpes national police in a press release.
Border police officers were attempting to check a vehicle traveling from Italian territory.
“Immediately, the vehicle refused to escape control, forced its way and fled towards Briançon. A roadblock was set up by police officers from the Briançon police station further down the valley but without result,” recalls the departmental management of the Hautes-Alpes national police.
Nine placements in administrative detention
Border police continued their search and identified the incriminated vehicle in the Montgenèvre station at 4:10 a.m. The officials then checked and arrested a total of ten people, including two who were in the trunk.
The driver, suspected smuggler, was taken into police custody. Two search cards had been issued by the police against him.
The nine other people, migrants, were placed in administrative detention in the border police premises of Montgenèvre. The investigation continues.
