Many people are mobilizing to try to capture Toy, a dog who has been wandering in the wild for several months. It is currently present in the town of Tours (Indre-et-Loire), according to several reports.
There are more than 360 members following the “In search of Toy” page on Facebook. For months, this large stray dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, has mobilized a real community in the south of Tours (Indre-et-Loire). Toy, orphaned after the sudden death of his mistress, began an impressive journey, from Orléans to Touraine, via Loir-et-Cher. Today, his new owner, Sandra, and a team of volunteers are trying to rescue him, reports The New Republic.
A long journey
Spotted regularly in Joué-lès-Tours, Chambray-lès-Tours or near Grandmont Park, Toy remains elusive despite feeding points and daily reports. “We don’t know why he arrived here,” said Nathalie, a volunteer with the Pet Alert association.
To help capture it, volunteers combined posters with QR codes and social networks to collect information in real time. Each report is even carefully recorded in a table.
Calls for caution
Despite their commitment, Toy remains elusive. A cage will soon be installed with the hope of gradually attracting it. “If it doesn’t work, we don’t have many solutions,” confided an agent from the Tours Métropole animal pound. Putting him to sleep remotely would require a specialized veterinarian, not found in the department.
Calls for caution have increased, particularly for motorists, because Toy often crosses busy roads. This Thursday, November 28, the canine has still not been recovered by its new owner.
