Quebec will plunge into the winter cold starting this Thursday with the drastic drop in the mercury, which will be followed by snow showers in several areas by Friday.
Temperatures will be above freezing in most of the province, while western Quebec will experience its first negative temperatures.
In Montreal, gray weather will be followed in the afternoon with rain mixed with intermittent snow at temperatures of 4 degrees.
The weather will be generally cloudy in western Quebec where it will be colder than usual with a biting wind chill in the morning.
Environment Canada is also forecasting intermittent rain or snow in the central part of the province, which will be under stable temperatures of 2 degrees.
For its part, Eastern Quebec will do rather well with an alternation of sun and clouds in most areas under temperatures of 3 to 4 degrees, according to the federal agency.
But things will get worse from Thursday evening, since these areas will receive a white carpet of 4 to 5 centimeters of snow by Friday, with the mercury above the freezing point.
Elsewhere, the weather will be cloudy on Friday with a 30% chance of showers, particularly in the south and center of the province, while snow will appear in Saguenay.
