The traditional UNSS (National School Sports Union) cross-country race of Charente-Maritime, which took place this Wednesday, November 27 at the Saint-Jean-d'Angély leisure center, took place in a special atmosphere. The teachers who supervised the competition welcoming 1,200 middle and high school students from across Charente-Maritime expressed their anger after the revelations in the newspaper “L'Équipe” (November 6 edition).
170 000 € they budget
“We are angry at the management of the current national management which revealed a deficit of more than 12 million euros, and we are also worried about the future of school sport”, confirms Géraldine Guihard, member of the SNES union -FSU. “We had a departmental budget of 170,000 euros to organize the department's sports meetings. The national management informed us that our budget would be reduced by at least 20,000 euros. Fortunately, partners, such as the Departmental Council, support us significantly. Concretely, we were not able to offer a snack to the 1,200 young people who ran today in Saint-Jean-d'Angély,” adds Cécile Dewinne, another member of the same union.
During the cross country, teachers encouraged the parents of students present to sign a petition to demand the departure of the current national leadership: https://lesite.snepfsu.fr/mon-metier/sport-scolaire/petition-unss -we-need-to-change-direction/
