“With global warming, we will have to think about changing tree species and changing models. How many degrees more? We don’t really know”asks Martial Leyrat, gardener at the green spaces of Tulle. On Place Carnot, the city's gardeners have been hard at work since the day before to give this square a new style, more in tune with the times, more green.

Perennial plants, aromatic herbs and even small trees are planted under this organic matter. With these islands of greenery, the city hopes to make this place a space to enjoy.

“The goal of this whole installation is to attract people to this square, explains Jérémy Novais, deputy mayor in charge of the work. We have a nice place but before we didn't have people coming to sit down to eat.”

We started to have this objective three months ago by installing the street furniture. The goal is to have young people eating, older people and to have people.

Demolishing this space should help prevent rainwater runoff in winter and therefore flooding. Vegetation also limits the heat in the city in summer. But is it enough? Ideally, we would really have to deconcrete everywhere and put back plants, grass, bushes… That would have real effects on the temperature but it has to be compatible with all the other uses of the city.” underlines Stéphanie Perrier, deputy mayor in charge of the environment and green spaces.

We are revegetating but not to the detriment of other uses of the city.
