Established in Bois-d’Amont for four months, Mahaut Bourrely Buatois21 years old, originally from Pays de Gex, is now Haut-Jura to all effects. Agricultural employee in the Vallée de Joux, in Switzerlandshe works for Agrobois, a multi-purpose operation combining dairy farming and forestry work. Recently, this animal lover and nature has set itself a challenge: to participate in the election of Miss and Mister France Agricole, a competition organized on social networks and supported in particular by figures from the television show L'Amour est dans le pré.
“I don’t come from an agricultural background”
Mahaut followed well-targeted training: professional baccalaureate in the conduct and management of a horse racing businessfollowed by a BTS in analysis and farm strategy. However, nothing destined her for agriculture. “ I don't come from an agricultural backgroundbut it was obvious to me,” she confides.
On the Swiss farm where she works, the herd that Mahaut is responsible for caring for is made up of around sixty dairy cows – Red Holsteins, Holsteins and some Normans, whose milk is intended for manufacturing of Gruyère AOPproduced in mountain pastures during the summer. The agricultural company Agrobois for which she works also takes care of forestry projects, such asfelling of trees or the production of firewood and chips.
For Mahaut, participate in the competition goes beyond the aesthetic aspect.
“The real reason why I am participating is not to be elected Miss, but to support and defend our values, our profession and our traditions, as well as our Jura territory. These are causes that are close to my heart”
To be won: a place for the Show
If she wins the title, Mahaut will participate in the Agricultural Show in February 2025as well as Livestock Summit in Clermont-Ferrand. Two opportunities, according to her, “to discuss the profession, whether with professionals or a public less accustomed to the agricultural world”.
For now, Mahaut is enjoying his role as agricultural employeeenjoying the responsibilities as much as the contact with animals and humans. But his future remains open: “If I settle down one day, I would like to combine my passions: photography, horse riding and agriculture », confides the young woman.
To support Mahaut's candidacy, it is possible to vote for her by liking her photo on the Facebook page entitled “Miss and Mister France Agriculture Elections”, before Friday November 29.
