In 2023, 750 kg of honey from the Ville de Valves (Morbihan) were sold out in 2 hours. Saturday November 30, 2024the 270 kg of honey should go very quickly.
What you need to know about selling
The traditional sale of pots of solidarity honey from the City of Vannes will take place at the Palais des Arts, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The honey comes from two apiaries of 24 hives each, installed on municipal land in Larmor-Gwened and Laroisseau.
“It’s eagerly awaited. People were queuing from 7:30 a.m. in 2023. At 11:30 a.m., we ran out of honey,” rewinds Armelle Manchec, municipal councilor in charge of living conditions and food.
The 125 gram jar is 3 euros. The 250 ga 6 euros. Finally, the 500 g pot is displayed at 10 euros. The entire financial proceeds (36,000 euros since launch) will be donated to charitable associations. The labeling was carried out by volunteers from the solidarity grocery store. The sale is carried out by the members of the council of elders.
Production down in 2024
After the excellent harvest of 2023 (750 kg), the harvest of 2024 is leaner: 270 kg, or 1,230 pots.
“The years follow one another and are not alike, the season has been extremely difficult for the bees,” indicates beekeeper Patrice Charron, who gives the reasons:
It all started with the ferocious predation of the Asian hornet (32 out of 48 hives killed by the Asian hornet) at the end of last season (fall 2023), weakening a large number of hives which did not survive the winter. Then the succession of bad weather in the spring prevented the bees from seeking their food, pollen and nectar, causing the delay in the development of the colonies and a limited honey harvest.
This year, urban honey would taste like linden according to the beekeeper.
Practical. Sales start at 9 a.m. at the Palais des Arts. Payment by cash, check or credit card. Good to know, the educational hive at the Maison de la Nature welcomes the public every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
