Case of SMS messages calling for a vote for the Socialist Party: Fouad Ahidar files a complaint with an investigating judge

Fouad Ahidar is convinced that these various blunders, whether intentional or not, have potentially caused him to lose a seat in the Chamber and a seat in the Brussels parliament. “The results need to be reviewed and a more in-depth check carried out”says the president of Team Ahidar. According to him, several Brussels polling stations did not present all of the lists.Voters have told me that they have not found my list for the federal and European level. There are perhaps 5,000 disputed votes.”

The Brussels MP filed a complaint with the House of Representatives. His objection was duly received by the federal parliament. It will be included in the report containing the conclusions of the administrative inquiry and the examination of the objections that will be sent to all elected members. During the plenary session on 4 July, it will be proposed that his complaint be forwarded to the first committee for the verification of credentials for examination.

Fouad Ahidar also filed a complaint with a civil party to an investigating judge against an unknown person. The parliamentarian joined the complaint filed by the Transparencia organization concerning potential computer fraud and use of private data. On June 8, many people received text messages calling for votes for PS elected officials, just a few hours before the election, i.e. outside the legal hours for the election campaign.

These text messages were sent with a central sending center to numbers that had not given their consent. The plaintiffs are therefore asking the investigating judge to seize the list of telephone numbers at the telephone operator that received the text messages, in order to demonstrate an illegal and illegitimate practice. The plaintiffs believe that this practice could also have influenced the vote.

In Brussels, Finance Minister Sven Gatz (Open VLD) has called for a recount of the votes. Groen and the PVDA (PTB) have announced that they support it.

At the federal level, Johan Van De Lanotte has called for a general investigation into all errors occurring in the country.
