Two main features link the films Drama Queens et A fanfare : two stories which reflect their times and where music is at the heart of the story. A fanfarewith classical and orchestral music, tells the story of two brothers separated at birth and getting to know each other once they become adults, united around their passion for music. A film that looks like a tale, paying homage to popular brass bands, where “the beautiful and the idyllic”et “a certain reality and social complexity”shares actor Benjamin Lavernhe, who plays Thibaut, the successful conductor brother.
“The two brothers share blood ties, but also this love of music and all music.”

Taking place in the north of France, director Emmanuel Courcol wanted to transcribe the context of the region on screen, without caricature, like Anglo-Saxon social comedies. The film indeed recalls “comedies like Billy Elliott and those of Ken Loach” echoing “a popular auteur cinema”observes Benjamin Lavernhe at the microphone of Tout Public.
The original soundtrack of Drama queens stands out for its truly original character, since the titles which punctuate the film were all composed especially for it. The film is also a tribute to pop icons of song, this one being “dedicated to all the cheesy and has-been singers we once loved and love to hate today”explains Alexis Langlois. It actually reminds us of the importance of being “gentler with each other and reconsider our relationship with our old icons”.
“Drama Queens mixes a lot of things that are apparently very different, and tries to create harmony out of disharmony.”

As for the story, it is through the story of the 65-year-old YouTuber Steevyshady (played by Bilal Hassani) that the viewer will follow the passionate and tormented love story of two singers: one pop and the other from the indie rock scene. A scenario that immediately appealed to the ex-youtuber. “I thought it was cool the idea of YouTubers being presented a bit like modern storytellers”says Bilal Hassani. A role “cathartic”where what he retains is “intensity” of the character he plays, and where it was possible to “push all sliders as far as possible”.
