The 2023-2024 season ended in the TOP 14 final last Friday at the Orange Vélodrome in Marseille. As is traditional, their departure was the subject of a large tribute at the end of the last match of the regular season, on June 8 in Chaban. Three weeks and a multitude of emotions later, it is time to celebrate them here. Here are our departing players, thank you for making UBB shine!
Clement Maynadier
Arriving in 2013 from the Albi club, Clément has been a player in many stages of the club’s development: the first seasons in the TOP 14 two years after promotion, the first qualification for the Champions Cup, and the many final stages since. A member of the squad, even captain, he has also taken on his role as mentor to the young generation of hookers embodied by Maxime Lamothe, whose development he has monitored since the Crabos, with impeccable fervour and professionalism. With 231 matches in Bordeaux & Blanc, Clément has surpassed the record held by Hugh Chalmers (230). He leaves a real legacy of his time at the club. If his reconversion has already begun on the Arcachon Basin where he will embrace the profession of oyster farmer, one thing is certain: he will scrutinise the future of the UBB with the greatest attention. Jandre Marais
Also at the club since 2013, having come from the South African Sharks team, our colossus 2nd line has quickly become a staple of the UBB, with 24 games played in his first season. Powerful and fast, exemplary in his commitment, he was named team captain to join the restricted circle of players who have stayed more than 10 years at the club, with 215 games to his credit. Do you want some good news? He will stay at the club to coach the Espoirs team starting next season, he who has already been coaching CM Floirac for 2 years. Dankie Jandre!
Kane Douglas
The 2m02 Australian giant conquered the Gironde with his fiery temperament on the pitch. Arriving in 2018, this former Wallabies international will have marked the club with his 146 matches played with the Bordeaux & Blancs. A warrior on the pitch, endearing and generous off it, he leaves the UBB at the end of the season but does not want to hang up his boots, hoping to be able to take on one last challenge next season. Thanks for everything, Kane!
Lekso Kaulashvili
Having arrived at the club the same year as Kane Douglas (2018), Lekso will have played 111 matches under the UBB colours. Our left pillar, a former Georgian international, has chosen to continue his career under the Section Paloise colours next season. Good luck to him!
Thomas Jolmes
Since 2019 when he joined UBB from Toulon as an additional player, Thomas Jolmes has quickly shown his second-row qualities thanks to his exceptional size, earning him a series of starts (34). He was also called up and started in the French team during two test matches against Japan during the summer of 2022. He is also joining Section Paloise next season. Thank you Thomas!
Madosh Tambwe
After two seasons at the Union Bordeaux Bègles club, our winger with exceptional athletic qualities has scored 19 tries in 35 matches since his arrival in France. He joins Montpellier Hérault Rugby at the end of the season. Thank you, Madosh!
Antoine Miquel
It was in September 2022 that Antoine Miquel wore the UBB jersey for the first time as a starter against his former club, Stade Toulousain. After wearing the Bordeaux & Blanc jersey 34 times, he headed to Oyonnax this summer. Thank you Antoine, we wish you the best for the future.
Zack Holmes
Having arrived from Stade Toulousain in 2022, Zack Holmes will have played 26 games during the 2022-2023 season alone. Known for his great professionalism, he will have left his mark on his teammates with his selflessness and his great personality. He will play for Oyonnax next season, with his teammate Antoine Miquel, whom he has been following since 2019. Good luck and thank you, Zack!
Mael Moustin
Young U20 world champion in 2023, Maël made his TOP 14 debut with UBB in 2023-2024. Author of a try in TOP 14 this season, our young winger will play at Montpellier Hérault Rugby from this summer. Lots of success for the future and thank you, Maël!
Yahnis El Maslouhi
After two years at UBB, Yahnis earned his first start in the TOP 14 during the match against Pau this season. He was also selected for a second match with the pro team against Montpellier. A starting pillar with the Espoirs Girondins, of which he was often the captain, Yahnis was very important at the UBB training center. We wish him the best for the rest of his career in Béziers!
Theo Nanette
Théo joined the Girondin squad for the 2023-2024 season as a medical joker for Yann Lesgourgues. He played 10 matches and scored his first try in Bordeaux & Blanc on the second day of the Champions Cup against Bristol. Thank you Théo, we wish you the best for the future.
Tani Vili
Arriving at the club in 2022 after some great performances in France U20, Tani Vili played 27 matches for us. Thank you Tani, and lots of success in La Rochelle.
