Dakar, July 2 (APS) – The Minister of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs Alioune Sall declared on Tuesday that one of the major challenges of his department is to equip Senegal Television (TDS) with equipment that meets international standards allowing the transition from analog to digital.

Alioune Sall was speaking during a visit to the TDS multiplexing center installed in the Ndiouga Kébé building.

“The State will be there and will support the TDS so that it can meet the objectives allocated to it and so that the State’s vision in this sector can be achieved,” said Mr. Sall.

He indicated that this meeting is part of the contact visits with all the entities under the supervision of the Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs.

“Today, we are delighted to come and see for ourselves the collection phases up to the dissemination of telecommunications flows and it was wise for us to do so,” said Mr. Sall.

He pointed out that the State will take a number of measures so that the TDS can equip itself with the best equipment to enable it to achieve its objectives.

“We are aware of the problems faced by the TDS and all of its technicians because there is a certain obsolescence of the equipment, some of which was installed 10 years ago,” said the Minister of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs.

Mr. Sall promised the director of the TDS that all the means at the disposal of the State will be implemented to restore, he said, this entity “dear to the State” thus making it possible to respond to the needs of the populations.

He said, however, that this would require internal discussions to “determine priorities.”

“The minister has come to give us his support and has already made the plea concerning the challenges that await us,” said Dr Aminata Sarr Ndiaye, Director General of the TDS.

She stressed that upon her appointment, her team was able to meet with the Minister of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs to explain the concerns of the TDS technical agents.

“This involves the renewal of our infrastructure, the construction of a head office for the TDS and the Excaf, State, TDS concession to review and enable the technical-commercial expansion of the TDS for the benefit of the populations,” explained Ms. Ndiaye.
