This Tuesday, July 2, the research section of the Corsican Gendarmerie proceeded to thearrest of five personswhich were placed in jailThe investigators acted on a letter of request from an Ajaccio investigating judge.

The investigation, which has already made progress several months ago, concerns facts of criminal association with a view to committing a crime, violations of weapons legislation and acts of destruction.

The arrests took place mainly in Ajaccio and its surrounding area.

This operation follows that of February 22, 2024. On that day, the Corsican gendarmerie made three arrests in Ajaccio – two men and a woman – and another in Poggio-d’Oletta. The latter had a tragic outcome. with the death of Alain Cappuri, 63, during his arresthit by three projectiles, following the use of a firearm by a police officer involved in this arrest.

As part of this investigation, many so-called weapons “of war” had been seized following searches carried out in the homes of the people questioned.

Last February, the prosecutor, Nicolas Septe, confirmed that the arrests were the result of several months of an investigation initiated in September 2023. On September 14, one person was violently attacked and injured by rifle butt blows in PorticcioThe attackers had left with the victim’s vehicle. This is an unusual incident on the island, even though a similar incident had been committed a fortnight earlier in the same area.

Regarding this new phase initiated this Tuesday, the hearings are only just beginning and could probably last 96 hours.
