Clermont. Carrefour buys the only supermarket of its kind in Puy-de-Dôme

Following the acquisition of Casino outlets by Intermarché and Auchan, the waltz of supermarket sales continues.

Carrefour announced on Monday, July 1, 2024, that it is officially acquiring the Cora and Match stores.

Cora located in Lempdes

The 60 Cora hypermarkets will come under the banner of the retail giant. This will be the case for the Cora in Clermont-Ferrand, located at 26 avenue de l’Europe, in Lempdes. The only “large” Carrefour Market is located in Beaumont, very close to Clermont.

The Cora are not very well known in the region.

In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, there is a supermarket of the brand in Vichy (Allier) and another in Amphion (Haute-Savoie).

This is the “most important acquisition for Carrefour since the purchase of Promodès” in 1999, explains its CEO, Alexandre Bompard.

The 115 Match stores will retain their own brand. The Provera purchasing centers are also expected to be acquired. The transaction is being carried out on the basis of an enterprise value of 1.05 billion euros.

All the stores taken over (Cora and Match) represent around 2.4% of the food distribution market and employ 22,000 people.
