This time, they chose to interpret Resist: Don't be on the list according to the song Resists by Gall. The elected officials of are releasing a new clipthis Monday, November 25, 2024, to reaffirm their commitment against violence against women. The clip was once again recorded free of charge at La Chouette, in Cernay-la-Ville. For the music and filming, the elected officials were able to rely on Tony Bastian, Kévin Taurin and Florian Pinard.

Twenty-two elected officials began in May 2023 by performing their own words to the melody of Heart by Clara Luciani. Their male counterparts had in turn given voice to the tune of I’ll Stand by You brought up to date by the cinematographic trilogy, The Heart of Men. A clip that was released on March 8 on the occasion of the International Women's Day.

This third clip brings together beyond the association of rural mayors of Yvelines. In particular, we can see elected officials from the Department and the Region. But also elected officials who do not adhere to the ÉRRÉ system but have a delegate.

Helping speech to free itself

For this third clip, it is not surprising that the elected men and women came together. The clip was released this Monday, November 25, 2024 on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Violence Against Women, established since 1999.

“This clip is a more visible way for us to speak out, to assert our positioning,” indicates Claire Chéret, mayor of Cernay-la-Ville. The objective of the video is also to remind people of the possibility for victims to address elected officials.

“Women come more easily to see us or bring it up in front of someone who will speak about it to an elected official. But it is still insufficient. We sometimes learn about situations somewhat by chance,” she continues.

In rural communities, the mayor or municipal representative appears to be a reassuring interlocutor. Victims can also contact the Étincelle traveling truck, a departmental device, which crisscrosses Yvelines. Within the truck, a social worker, among others, responds to needs.

“Women are often afraid of going to the police station. For them it is a filing of a complaint and it stops there even though that is not the case. »

Claire Chéret, mayor of Cernay-la-Ville

This clip also testifies to the mesh rural communities of Yvelines. All members of the ÉRRÉ – Élu Rural Relais de l’Égalité system have been trained to welcome speech. What to say, how to say it and how to react. “Who to turn to, what are the procedures, how to respond to emergency needs” are among the tools they are equipped with.

Talk, and then?

In Yvelines, victims can be urgently rehoused if necessary. “Going through elected officials is a logic of global support. We can talk about rehousing, children but also get in touch with an association” adds the councilor. Actions which are also carried out at the gendarmerie.

Furthermore, five emergency housing should see the light of day in Sud-Yvelines, within Territoires. The Agglo has undertaken to take charge of the necessary work. If the accommodation has been identified, it will only be put into service when elected officials can “support an association because victims cannot remain alone in accommodation without support”. Contacts with associations are in progress.

Support over time

For the moment, when it is necessary to relocate “in an absolute emergency, we have a place in Rambouillet”, indicates Claire Chéret. Elected officials work in a network and can help find a solution. If no place becomes available, elected officials can rely on “the social services of Rambouillet or the Department”. And the mayor of Cernay-la-Ville points out: “So far, we have always managed to find a solution”.

But the victim can doubt, turn back. And that’s normal, as the mayor of Cernay-la-Ville points out.

“A woman who is a victim of violence will leave nine times before leaving for good on the tenth. It's part of the process. Things take time. You need support over time and never give up, without judgment.”
