Michael Chandler reportedly received a tough offer from the UFC to refuse. It’s for a huge fight.
Michael Chandler was supposed to headline UFC 303 against Conor McGregor in a highly anticipated fight. But with two weeks to go until the fight, McGregor was forced to pull out due to injury, and ‘Iron’s’ hopes were that the fight would be rescheduled. However, Michael Chandler took to social media to announce that he had been offered a lightweight title fight against Islam Makhachev in October.

“I was offered @MAKHACHEVMMA (Islam Makhachev) in October – but if @TheNotoriousMMA (Conor McGregor) pinky toe is ready in September, let’s make it the Sphere. The biggest sporting event in the history of sport!!!!”Chandler wrote.
The news came as a surprise to many, as Michael Chandler hasn’t fought since November 2022, when he lost by submission to Dustin Poirier. It’s surprising that he’s even being considered for a title shot, especially since many consider Arman Tsaukyan to be the No. 1 contender at lightweight.
Makhachev, meanwhile, also hinted at a surprise opponent for his next fight on social media.

It is unclear whether Chandler was offered the fight as he claims. However, even though Chandler was offered a shot at Makhachev for the lightweight title, he still wants to fight Conor McGregor and is holding out hope that fight will happen. But it would be interesting if Chandler turned down a title fight, which could be his last chance to become UFC champion, to face McGregor.
Michael Chandler has a 23-8 professional record and is coming off a submission loss to Dustin Poirier. Prior to that, he earned a knockout victory over Tony Ferguson, which allowed him to get back in the win column after a decision loss to Justin Gaethje and a TKO loss to Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title. In his UFC debut, he earned a knockout victory over Dan Hooker.
