“For several weeks, wines in cubes, stamped Terres du Midi, were showcased, at the head of the gondola, at the Aldi supermarket in Saint-Marcel-sur-Aude. Overnight, they were replaced by Spanish wine sold for €1.85 per liter. We therefore asked for explanations.explains Alexandre Garcia, member of the Young Farmers of Aude. To be sure of obtaining the explanations, around thirty winegrowers chose to put a little pressure by blocking access to the store with a tractor.

“We were told that the management of Aldi requested that this product be put on the shelves. They admitted that placing it at the head of the gondola was a mistake locally. It was therefore removed and will be placed elsewhere. The welcome and the exchanges were courteous, because above all the manager and the employees were impressed”underlines the trade unionist.

He adds that after this incursion at Aldi, the unionists went to the local Intermarché, just to check the contents of the shelves. “We were able to see only French wine and, moreover, mainly local and regional production”rejoices Alexandre Garcia. He also warns that the farmers of Aude are as many lookouts when they do their shopping in supermarkets, the same for their families and loved ones.
