We know the results of the first round of the 2024 legislative elections. This Sunday, June 30, voters in the 1st constituency of the Rhônewhich brings together the 5th arrondissement of Lyon and several parts of the 2nd, 7th, 8th and 9th arrondissements, voted to elect their next deputy.

Anaïs Belouassa CherifiLFI candidate supported by the Popular Front, Thomas Rudigoz (Renaissance and outgoing deputy) and Laurent Mouton (RN) are qualified for the second round and will have to decide at the polls on July 7 as part of a triangular.

As a reminder, voters in the 1st constituency of the Rhône had the choice between nine candidatesincluding Thomas Rudigoz, outgoing Renaissance MP reinvested, Laurent Mouton (RN), Anaïs Belouassa Cherifi, LFI candidate supported by the Popular Front and
Gregory Sansoz, invested by the Republicans.

Gabriel Attal’s visit on Friday, the last day of the campaign, to support Thomas Rudigoz during a quick stroll through Old Lyon was not enough. The outgoing Macronist MP is very far behind the left-wing candidate. He comes in second with 29.72% while Anaïs Belouassa Cherifi is far ahead with 42.4%.

Notable fact: the National Rally qualified for the second round in a three-way race, winning 18.1% of the vote.

“I am determined to win this constituency”

The LFI candidate, close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, assures that she is “determined to win this constituency”. She had been invested in the 1st constituency in place of Aurélie Gries who wanted to try again after her failure in 2022. But she regretted being the victim of a « purge » from the leadership of France Insoumise.

The New Popular Front has significantly increased its score compared to 2022. It is a desire to express itself for the citizens, but there is also a rise of the RN, notably due to a desire to sweep away Macron’s anti-social and anti-democratic policies. We are heading towards a three-way race in the second round. So we continue on the ground, I am a committed young woman, my candidacy is refreshing, I am determined to win this constituency.

“In the constituency, an LFI-Melenchonist candidate is likely to win. The RN’s phantom candidate has no chance, he is here a stepping stone for LFI,” Thomas Rudigoz declared this Monday morning in an unfavorable ballot.
