At the close of the polls Lionel Royer-Perreaut (Renaissance) still thought he would qualify in the second week. The working-class sectors had not voted massively according to him. It was necessary to face the facts, Christine Juste, the candidate of the New Popular Front was ahead of him with 17.72% of the votes. Defeated by some 600 votes, 15.78%, the outgoing deputy indicated that he was withdrawing to block the RN.

A huge wave

« There was a huge wave. Citizens who came, who joined us and in the space of 10 days we were able to run a campaign. “, says Christine Juste (NFP). “ We saw places, especially the most popular ones, where there were queues to go and vote, even though they were rather abstainers. This explains my victory over the Renaissance candidate. ».

The RN far ahead

The fact remains that a good transfer of votes from the Renaissance and LR candidates to the NFP candidate will be needed to catch up with Olivier Fayssat, the RN candidate who obtained 24.03% of the votes. The NFP candidate thanks Lionel Royer-Perreaut for withdrawing: ” I am certain that among all these voices there are democrats and people who are attached to liberty, equality, fraternity and who want to make the Republic live. ».
