2024 Legislative Elections: Lyon, Land of Resistance?

The final results of the first round of the legislative elections in the Rhône reveal a significant particularity, compared to the national results. It was the left that came out on top in the department in the first round. The left bloc totaled 35.55% of the votes. The far right collected 27.04% of the votes. The center is third with 23.81%. The right is 4th with 11.92%. Lyon is no stranger to this atypical final table…

Three weeks after the dissolution of the National Assemblydecided by Emmanuel Macron On the evening of the European elections, France was called once again to the polls yesterday to elect the 577 new deputies. The Rhône has 14 constituencies. 4 of which are for the city of Lyon alone…. And the results suggest that Lyon is a land of resistance

The Rhône already has one elected, or rather re-elected, MP: the environmentalist Marie-Charlotte Garin obtained 51.5% in the 3rd constituency and more than 25% of registered voters. She therefore goes to the first round and launched an appeal to “true republicans”.

“Today, between the extreme right and something else, we must absolutely choose something else. Because the extreme right will not allow us to form a society.”

At the national level, the RN confirmed its breakthrough with 33% of the vote. In front of the New Popular Front (28,5%) et Ensemble (the presidential party) at only 22%. The results in the Rhône are however very far from these national results. The New Popular Front is leading in the 5 constituencies of Lyon or Villeurbanne. But 11 candidats RN are in a position to remain in the second round, out of the 14 Rhone constituencies. Is Lyon really a land of resistance?

Among the reactions to our microphone: Marie-Charlotte Garin (NFP-EELV), Boris Tavernier (NFP), Sandrine Runel (NFP-PS), Anne Brugnera (Ensemble), Gabriel Amard (NFP-LFI), Gregory Doucet (EELV mayor of Lyon), Cedric van Styvendael (PS mayor of Villeurbanne), Renaud Payre (vice-president of the Lyon Metropolis), Cedric Pignal (RN), Lucie Gaillot-Durand (NFP), Cyrille Isaac-Sibille (Ensemble), Tiffany Joncour (RN), Romain Billard (LR)…
