The celebrations of the national holiday, on June 23 and 24, were disrupted by Mother Nature. Cities adapted according to the weather.

“Our teams monitored the weather conditions until the last possible minute, both on June 23 and 24,” explains Martine Verdon, spokesperson for the City of Saint-Bruno. The goal was to maintain outdoor activities in order to take advantage of the special character of the Village Lake and the Old Presbytery and to welcome as many citizens as possible.

In preparing its outdoor events, Saint-Bruno is considering a plan B in case of rain. “Either a cancellation, a postponement or the moving of the activity to another location,” says Martine Verdon.

Thus, on June 23, the Grand banquet bleu et blanc and the Option Trad show were moved to the Centre Marcel-Dulude, while the main Comebach show was held on the stage set up at Lac du Village. The Municipality does not have an exact figure regarding the attendance at the Centre Marcel-Dulude on June 23, but 600 meals were distributed for the Grand banquet bleu et blanc. “At Lac du Village, our employees on site noticed, despite the uncertain weather, that many citizens came out for the Comebach show,” says Ms. Verdon.

On June 24, Saint-Bruno suspended, then cancelled the activities planned for the day.

The fireworks have been postponed to a later date, which has yet to be determined.

Sainte-Julie

In Sainte-Julie, activities were scheduled for June 23. Some were cancelled while others were reorganized. “The Julie-Tour, scheduled for the morning, and the fireworks in the evening were cancelled for safety reasons. Thanks to the change in schedule, citizens were able to enjoy the festivities in a dry and safe environment,” replied Sainte-Julie spokesperson Camille Richard.

The family celebration started earlier. This was also the case for the Trio Encore and Guylaine Tanguay concerts. For example, the singer went on stage at 6 p.m. instead of 8:30 p.m. According to the Municipality, some 3,000 people attended the musical performances.

Saint Basil the Great

“The bad weather changed the plans, but the weather conditions did not tarnish the festivities,” comments Saint-Basile spokesperson Stéphanie Plamondon.

The late-night musical show was cancelled, while the entertainment portion of the day, namely family activities, was moved to the Jean-Rougeau arena.

“Very early on Sunday, the teams were on the ground and were assessing the situation hour by hour.

Making changes on the same day involves a lot of work, logistics and organization for an event of this magnitude!” adds Ms. Plamondon.

According to the City, citizens were still there, both on June 23 at the arena and on June 24, for the postponement of the fireworks.
