Several Proximus stores recently robbed: new security measures implemented

Proximus has decided to take additional security measures in its points of sale following a series of robberies and burglaries that have occurred in recent weeks, the telecom operator reported on Monday.

These incidents, mainly located in Wallonia (Namur, Hainaut, Walloon Brabant) and marginally in Brussels, occurred both at night and during the day, putting the safety of customers and employees “at risk”, indicates Proximus.

While around ten incidents were recorded last year, this figure has more than doubled in recent months, with around ten hold-ups or burglaries in June alone, Fabrice Gansbeke, spokesperson for Proximus, told Belga.

Faced with this situation, the company has taken the decision to no longer stock high-value devices in its stores, particularly iPhone models, until further notice.

Security guards have also been deployed outside stores since last weekend and additional security measures”are being implemented“, explained the spokesperson, without wanting to detail these latest measures.

Proximus has set up psycho-social support for employees and customers who have been victims or witnesses of these acts.

Customers will still be able to benefit from demonstrations and advice on these smartphones, but purchases will now be delivered to their homes as quickly as possible, the operator specifies.

The resumption of “normal” activities in the points of sale will depend on the evolution of the situation, the spokesperson added.
