An explosive cast awaits voters for this second round in the 7e Yvelines constituency.

Two former Macronist ministers, Aurélien Rousseau (NFP) and the outgoing MP Nadia Hai (ENS) will face off in a three-way race. Facing them is a colourful restaurateur and regular on television sets: Babette de Rozières (LR-RN). All three are staying in the race.

With 5,000 votes behind the first, the chances of the hard-right candidate winning seem very low. The match will rather be played between the first and second, with the 4,142 voters of the Republicans.

2,307 votes difference between first and second

Aurélien Rousseau, the short-lived Minister of Health in the Borne government and parachuted into the constituency by the New Popular Front, achieved a more than honourable score: 34.68% of the vote with nearly 8,500 more votes than the 2022 LFI candidate. He finished first in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (in almost all the polling stations in the commune), Meulan-en-Yvelines, Chanteloup-les-Vignes, Hardricourt and even Andrésy, “a commune that is traditionally rather centre-right”, the candidate’s entourage congratulated themselves on Sunday evening.

“I remain modest in the face of this score which clearly shows that we have these three blocks.”

Aurélien Rousseau, NFP candidate

The second, at 29.32%, ahead of 2,307 votes, still recorded 4,000 more votes than in the first round in 2022. She also won in five municipalities: Vernouillet, Verneuil-sur-Seine, Évecquemont, Maurecourt and Triel-sur-Seine. The one who was Minister Delegate in charge of the City for almost two years really believes in her chances of victory on the evening of July 7.

“Everyone saw me in third place. Now I have a reservoir of votes that the others don’t have,” says the outgoing MP. “I call on the voter responsibility for those who do not find themselves in the project of Jean-Luc Mélenchon defended and embodied by Aurélien Rousseau.

“I am at war.”

Babette de Rozières, LR-RN candidate

Babette de Rozières, former LR regional councillor, followed the line wanted by Éric Ciotti by moving closer to the RN for this election. With this double label, she finished with 25.79%, her best score in a legislative election and the best result ever achieved by the extreme right in this constituency.

She came first in Mézy-sur-Seine, Gaillon-sur-Montcient, Tessancourt-sur-Aubette and Vaux-sur-Seine, the most rural part of the constituency. Mathematically, however, she remains the least well placed to win this three-way race: “I’m going into battle against Rousseau, he’s a parachutist, a hypocrite of the Republic“I’m at war,” she said Monday morning.

Where will the Republican votes go in the second round? This is probably where the key to this three-way race lies. The LR candidate, Julien Fréjabue, an opposition municipal councillor in Verneuil-sur-Seine, refuses in any case to give the slightest voting instruction. “The voters will make their choice,” he indicated on Sunday evening.
