In Bram, Cuxac-Cabardès or Carcassonne, the Mammobile crisscrossed Aude to offer mobile, rapid and free breast cancer screening.
Breast cancer, the leading cause of cancer mortality among women in France, can be better treated thanks to early detection. For women aged 50 to 74, often far from medical centers, the Ariège Prévention Mobile association (APM 09) has launched an innovative project, in partnership with the Ariège-Pyrénées Professional Territorial Health Community (CPTS): the Mammobile.
This medical truck, measuring 16 meters long and more than 2 meters wide, accessible to people with disabilities, crisscrossed Aude in November 2024 with stages in Bram, Cuxac-Cabardès, Conques-sur-Orbiel, Rieux -Minervois and Carcassonne, at the Jean-Montsarrat du Viguier social center. On site, the multidisciplinary team welcomed the patients in a friendly atmosphere. Camerone, a caring secretary, reassured the women before the examination, carried out by experienced professionals. In less than 15 minutes, this free and painless test could be carried out, a major advance for these sometimes isolated territories.
“This device is a necessity for our rural areas”underlined Daniel Iché, vice-president of Carcassonne Agglo, in charge of Social Development. Present in Carcassonne, he praised the commitment of the team, reinforced by Christelle, facilitator of the Regional Screening Coordination Center, who also distributed kits for colorectal cancer.
With its visits to Aude, the Mammobile has enabled many women to take an essential step for their health.
