MATYAS, Imre “Jim” – Passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28th, 2024 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at 73 years of age. Beloved husband and best friend of Ilona for 52 years. Loving father of Andrea (Herb) Mena, Christina (Rick) Fazari, and Imre Matyas. Cherished grandfather of Micela (Sala) Yassin, Matteo Borrelli, Tennessee Matyas, Nico Fazari, cruz Fazari and great grandson Sami. Dear brother of Elizabeth (Les) Hegyes, Margaret Fortin and Martha Matyas. Imre will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by his parent Imre and Elizabeth Matyas and his sister Mary Braico.
Imre was employed with Union Carbide for 29 years. He was highly involved with the Welland Soccer club as a coach for over 23 years and as a referee. He was a Toronto Maple Leaf fan but would openly deny it. He loved to travel with his loving wife to may places but especially enjoying Cuba and his homeland of Hungary.
The family will receive their friends at the H. L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Thursday, July 4th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. If desired memorial donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
