Avignon Off Festival: Jacques de Bascher, a poignant story

“I am the companion of Karl Lagerfeld. I was the lover of Yves Saint-Laurent. But of me, Jacques de Bascher, what will remain?” We then hear the voice of the late Bernard Rapp coming from the radio, and Jacques calls Karl straight away, explaining that he was enthusiastic about the interview he just listened to. Nevertheless, we sense that he is a little sad. “I had everything to succeed”he told us, a glass in hand. “I’m handsome, intelligent, I have an incredible sense of taste. I love the idea people have of me. An easy idea by making me appear stupid, someone stupid and simple.”

We follow Jacques de Bascher as he tells us that he liked living at night, that he dreamed of being someone else, and that he has AIDS. He recorded his long confession on a cassette intended for Karl and then unfolds the memories of very alcoholic evenings where the viewer will be invited to relive the 70s and 80s in all that was wonderful and decadent. . Alone on stage in the closed doors of a room, Gabriel Marc impresses with his intensity, moving with his truth, who embodies more than he plays. Gorgeous !
