The travellers used heavy equipment to enter the stadium grounds.

This Sunday, June 30, at the end of the day, around a hundred caravans from the traveling community burst into the peaceful town of Azereix, in the Hautes-Pyrénées. The travelers settled inside the stadium illegally.

The situation is a little more complex than it seems, according to the mayor of the town, Serge Cieutat. Indeed, “the community made a declaration to the prefecture, to report its passage in the Hautes-Pyrénées. It was signposted for the major passage area of Lasgravettes, in Bastillac. But it was already occupied by other people from the trip who did not report themselves when they arrived and therefore unable to settle in the busy area, they tried to find a last minute solution.

The big ways to invade the stadium

To invade the village rugby stadium, the travelers used major means. They removed the concrete pylons which prevented access to the stadium, with 4×4 vehicles, then they broke the locks of the two gates, tells us the mayor who will initiate, “as a matter of principle”, an eviction procedure. Even if it should not be of much use, travelers have an administrative period of 15 days to leave the place, knowing that they must go to Pau, around July 14.
